Remembrance Avenue Burnham on crouch

Permission was secured from Maldon District Council in 2013 for 14 houses on the site of a former CEFAS laboratory adjacent to the western edge of Burnham-on-Crouch Conservation Area. The site is designated flood risk 3a (high probability of flooding) but is protected by coastal  flood defences to 1 in 1000 years standard with an allowance for climate change. The houses have therefore been designed with garage and utility rooms at ground level, all living accommodation at first floor level and above and all bedrooms at second floor level and above.
Developed while at Stanford Eatwell, we worked with Maldon District Council to agree a scheme of four storey houses in keeping and scale with the best of the conservation area, and taking inspiration from Tollesbury Sail Lofts. The approach taken is contemporary with locally matched brickwork, weatherboarding and render. Windows are large to take advantage of the coastal/river views and to ensure active frontage.
