vicarage road Croydon

This permission for  41 apartments (13 no. studios, 13 no. 1 bed, 10 no.  2 bed and 5 no. 3 bed flats) was achieved while at Stanford Eatwell on a site next to Wandle Park tram station adjacent to the practice's large New South Quarter development in Croydon.
The challenge was to turn the corner from the scale of the two storey terraces of Vicarage Road, to the large public open space which is Wandle Park and lead to the 5/6 storey New South Quarter. A series of devices were used including corner balconies and lead coloured recessed upper storeys. The proximity of the tram stop allowed for a reduction in parking which was hidden at the back and the scheme was designed to the latest Wheelchair and Lifetime Homes standards in accordance with the London Plan of the time.
